2:22 am	Time to start some Dodgers News and Notes... Only 10 more days until Opening Day...I think...This is probably one of the greatest days in the calendar year. Every single team in the Major Leagues has hope on Opening Day. If you are from New York or Kansas City, Los Angeles or Miami, your team is in first place. I'm looking forward to seeing the Boys and Blue take the field. Hopefully the year will be full of good health and success.Some thoughts on Spring Training thus far...- The youngsters were fairly impressive. It was nice to get some visuals of the guys we've been hearing so much about. They do need some more time down in the minors though to develop, they are close but I don't think they are ready yet.- Out of that specific group, Russell Martin has been the most impressive. I know its been said and written a lot, but I would agree that he looks like he is ready to contribute at the Major League level now. Hopefully he is our catcher of the future. I like what the scouts have to say about his upside more than Dioner Navarro at this point.- I always thought Grady Little got a raw deal in Boston. I thought he did a good job and if I were the manager, I would have left Pedro in too. I'm a firm believer in that you ride the horse that got you there and after seeing years of Pedro dominate hitters, I was sure he could get those outs, even if his pitch count was getting up there. I'm glad to see that he has gotten his second chance and I'm excited to see him in Los Angeles. After reading articles about him, I think that he can do a good job integrating the youngsters and the veterans and helping them become a good mix that can lead to success.- Another thing I liked was the Ned Colletti's requests to have veterans take out the rookies for dinner. I think that while not an obligation, it is important for those who have the experience to help teach young guys as they try to make their way into the league. It's a privelige to have the opportunity to play baseball at any level, so I think that veterans should make sure they remember and the young players make sure they understand. (Comment on this)

5:52 pm	*sigh* After dropping two of three to the Hated Ones (at least they won the game we went to), the Dodgers lost yesterday to the Cubs 4-1. To their credit, though, they were facing the mighty Greg Maddux who went on to record his 321st win of his career, allowing only three hits and a run through 8 innings. This is the first time since 1994 that Maddux has started a season 3-0. With an ERA of 1.33, he promises to keep that streak of consecutive seasons with 15 or more wins alive.To take nothing away from him, Brett Tomko pitched well, only allowing 7 hits through 6 innings but the four runs were just too much. Franquelis Orsoria pitched the 7th 8th and 9th without allowing a walk or hit and struck out three. This marks the first outing this year that he pitched more than an inning and the first time he did not allow a run. He cut his ERA in half by dropping it to 6.75.The Dodgers' bats were quiet, only scrounging up three hits against Maddux. JD Drew scored the only run for the Dodgers when Bill Mueller doubled him in in the fifth.In other Dodgers news, Nomar Garciaparra took on the field batting practice before the game reporting no ill effects afterwards. He will do the same today and tomorrow and if all goes well, he'll begin a rehab assignment or be activated. I'd like to see him take the rehab assignment just to be sure. It'd be nice to have his HEALTHY bat in the lineup but it would do us no good if he's still hurt.The team designated Cody Ross for assignment. Being out of options, this means that he must clear waivers before he makes it back to Las Vegas. Since it is unlikely that he will clear waivers without being picked up by another team, the Dodgers are actively shopping him, trying to get something for him before placing him on waivers. They have ten days to do so, otherwise someone will most likely snatch him up. I had such high hopes for that kid, but unfortunately, the team has decided against the six-outfielder roster and brought up Oscar Robles to fill in for Jeff Kent yesterday while he recoups from being drilled in the head Sunday night. Hey, Ned, at least try to pick up a decent middle reliever for Ross, would ya?*Injury Report*Eric Gagne will resume throwing in three weeks and could be back as soon as less than two months from now.Cesar Izturis experienced stiffness in his surgically repaired elbow. This setback has pushed his rehab assignment back at least ten days which means he may not be back to the big club until June.Rafael Furcal has admitted that he's been playing injured since Opening Day when he jammed his left middle finger stealing second base. He said he only grips the bat at 50% strength with that hand and that it only bothers him while batting left handed. He has refused x-rays.Jayson Werth has made no progress with his surgically repaired wrist. He says he's experiencing the same pain he had five months ago.The Dodgers try to get even against the Cubs tonight when Derek Lowe (1-1, 5.82) takes on Carlos Zambrano (0-1, 4.86) (Comment on this)

I'm not pleased with his arbitration decisions, but I do agree with the signing of Jeff Kent.I would have offered Jose Lima-time arbitration over Wilson Alvarez. I'm sorry. Wilson hasn't done much for me, hasn't done much for the team but be left-handed. That's not enough. Heart and soul and competitiveness aoutweigh situational usage ability. How many postseason games did W win for the Blue this year? Ok, thought so.Then again, letting popular players go seems to be DePodesta's forte.Now, with Kent, the Dodgers have some extra pop, especially with the loss of Finley. Just in case Greenie goes, too, Kent could really provide a much-needed helping hand on offense. Will he be here long? Who knows? 10:33 am	I bleed Dai-Yere Blue, ay, yi, yi! Nomar's batting .375 for the Dodgers While I was lamenting the breakdown of the Phillies, and sweet Mary and Moses what a break down it's been, the Dodgers were busy winning 11 of their last 12. They are now half a game back of the first place Diamondbacks. Why is this? Because of my rant. Also because they have been getting starting pitching and good hitting. I'm really mad at the Dodgers blog I linked on my sidebar because they haven't updated in 15 fucking days. I'm a better Dodgers blog and I almost never discuss the Dodgers. Deadspin needs to talk about the Dodgers more. I don't like this all purpose sports blog, it's too broad. I already have espn.com for that. Give me Dodgers news damn it! And whatever happened to one time Dodger hero Jose Lima? Remember when he said he bleeds Dayere blue? And now he's a terrible pitcher for the hated Mets with an ERA of like 14.00. By the way, I rediscovered my throw to third yesterday and played pretty well in our softball game. Now my arm is sore, but a good sore. (Comment on this)

5:43 pm	Federal Employee for a day On Tuesday I performed my civic duty and, using my American Policial Science Bachelor's Degree from Columbia University, I became an Election Clerk in the Los Angeles Primary. It was actually a very interesting experience and many that I worked with, including my inspector and the full-time election employees thought I should do this as a full-time job. Though this was my first time doing this, my methods made election day go smoother in my precinct. This was a really good experience and it felt very good to be a viablke part of the democratic process. Perhaps I will do it again. Why must Gagne make me fret so? Our star closer's arm was inflamed yesterday. Is he going on the DL again after only two games back? Well, I will keep updated with my source for Dodgers news (especially the bad news) from dodgerblues.com. I've watched more Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, Law & Order Criminal Intent, and even Law & Order Trial by Jury episodes this weeks than there are hours in the week. Law & Order is my anti-drug! I just thought of an invention. The dog mezuzah! You can put a mezuzah into a doggy door that they would lick every time they go through. You can put a flavor of something that dogs like to lick. Another dog's posterior might not be so respectful in which to scent a holy parchment. Well, the Bark Mitzvah caught on, right? why not this? Racing horses are not recommended to have them on sugar cubes in starting gates or the Jewish horses will always come in last, like that joke about the Israeli slalom guy. 2:57 pm	We get letters (4) Posted by Karen Wickre, Google Blog team Our inbox is filled with stories from people who tell us how they use Google, and occasionally we feature these stories here. If you have a noteworthy tale, write to us. In the world of marketing, there's always keen interest in knowing what the "target customer" does with the company's products. What are these people really like? How do they use our products? Well, now we know about one in detail. Meet Alex, age 12. She just completed 6th grade in the Seattle area. And she wrote this essay for her class. If we made Alex up, you wouldn't believe us, so take a moment to read her report yourself. Her dad Bill wrote to say that Alex "just totally loves doing research on the web and playing with making web sites. She did a cyber camp a couple of years ago, but most of what she knows comes from her mom" (who at the time led development of an online commerce business). What's more, Bill goes on to say, Alex "has just discovered geocaching" and he adds "I started teaching her python as a first programming language this winter, but she got bored until I could figure out how to do some visual stuff that was more engaging than console read/writes :-)." He also notes that she "just discovered usability studies, and has been seen "flipping through one of her mom's several books on web design, engaging the reader, and ecommerce. Her dream job when she grows up is to be a technical program manager or web designer." To us, the ideal Google user sounds a bit like Alex - resourceful, keen to try new things, and clearly, someone who appreciates ease of use. So we're really pleased that a number of our services meet her needs. By the way - she got 106/100 for her essay (extra points for writing technique). Nice work, Alex!
